2017 SEASON START INFO & CALL FOR HELP

17 Apr 2017 by Kellie Duff

Hi WJFNC members, we are only a week out from the season start so we have some important info for you all;
- This coming Sunday 23/4 is our first game of the season.
- The RDFNL still hasn’t released the fixture for the season due to some late footy team withdrawals from a number of clubs which has resulted in a total rework of the fixture. The league hope to have it out early this week. We will post the fixture via this app to all members as soon as we receive it. At this stage we don’t know whether we will be playing at home or away this weekend, please be patient.

- All coaches and team managers will be attending an information night this coming Wednesday 19/4 at 7pm at the Gilbert Gordon Oval clubrooms in readiness for our opening round – hopefully we will have the fixture from the RDFNL by then! They will then be in contact with you all with further info and game day roles that will require filling.

- Registrations – all players must be registered to play with our club before you are allowed to take the court/field. Please make sure this is done to avoid very disappointed kids, as the league will not allow us to play unregistered players. Please let your coach or a committee person know ASAP if you are having difficulty in paying club fees or registering.

- Footy Shorts & Socks
Tash will be parked just outside the change rooms at Buffalo on the following dates:
Tuesday 18th April 5 – 5.30pm at Buffalo Stadium
Wednesday 19th April 5 – 5.30pm at Buffalo Stadium
Thursday 20th April 4.30 – 5.30 at Gilbert Gordon
Shorts are $25 and socks are $15. Payment by cash only and correct change would be greatly appreciated.

- Player Bags – We have bags available to buy for $40 and Tash will be putting in an order asap. Please let your Tash or your team manager know if your child wants one and what name they want on it (some choose to have their first name, some have a nickname).

HELP NEEDED URGENTLY
- General Committee Members – the WJFNC are operating off a skeleton committee and have had to introduce a rule that all teams are required to have a nominated member sit on the committee. No specific responsibilities, but they are expected to assist or help allocate tasks among your parent group. This is necessary if we want the club to continue operating. We need volunteers for these roles urgently! Meetings are once a month and go for a maximum of 1.5 hours. There are many teams that still need a designated person to fulfil this role. Thanks to the couple of people that have put their hands up so far!

- First Aid – we do not have enough first aid volunteers for each team! This is an urgent requirement for both footy and netball as games cannot start without one for each team each game. You only need a Level 1 basic first aid and a volunteer Working With Children Check (WWCC) – many occupations require this qualification and we have over 100 families, so it’s hard to understand why it’s so hard to get first aid volunteers. You don’t have to be available every week or do it every week – we hope to have a number of people share each teams first aid role.
It’s getting to a stage where we either need to forfeit games or pay for someone to be the first aid person which will have to be paid for by that teams families if we don’t get more volunteers. Please let your coach or team manager know ASAP if you can help.

- Canteen & Game Day Roles – Kath Bourke will be operating the canteen at the GGO this year but Kath will need helpers. Your TM will be in contact as soon as the fixture comes out to place every family on a roster for this as per the normal game day roles like runner, water carrier, goal and boundary umpires etc.

- Thank you to the people that have volunteered to help so that we can get the season off and running. To the many families that do not assist, please remember that every single person that holds a position or helps within this club is a volunteer and many are doing multiple roles due to the lack of volunteer numbers. If you have an issue or think you can do things better, then please put your hand up and help us make it better!

Thanks everyone, we hope every player has a fun season!
